Master of Science in Accounting
Overview
The University of Rhode Island's Master of Science in Accounting degree is the accounting credential for the millennium. The current business environment and continued development of accounting practice and theory has increased the need for graduate level accounting education. The unprecedented demand for accountants in public accounting firms, industry, and government has been fostered by the increasing size and complexity of organizations, additional tax laws, and a post Enron regulatory environment with more attention than ever being paid to financial reporting and auditing.
Entry into the financial accounting profession as member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants requires 30 credits beyond the baccalaureate degree. Currently, over 42 states, including Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York, have passed legislation requiring that a CPA have a minimum of 150 credit hours. Therefore, not only does a master's degree prepare the student to deal with today's complex and competitive business environment, the degree is rapidly becoming a prerequisite for entry into public accounting.
URI's accounting programs are among the high quality programs accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance the Collegiate Schools of Business. With a master's degree from URI's accounting program, your professional opportunities are unlimited.
The Masters' of Science in Accounting program has graduated alumni who have distinguished themselves as corporate CEO's, CFO's and controllers of major corporations, owners of highly successful businesses, partners of prestigious accounting firms and more.
“The University of Rhode Island's Masters Degree program in Accounting opened many doors for me and is without doubt the cornerstone to my success. When I graduated with my M.S. degree I was well prepared to compete with my peers at KPMG. I found my accounting education was as good, if not better than, people from schools such as The University of Chicago, Notre Dame, and Northeastern, just to name a few. Truly, I would not be where I am today without the URI M.S. in Accounting program and its dedicated faculty.”
