Ruby Roy Dholakia is Professor of Marketing and E-Commerce in the College of Business Administration, The University of Rhode Island. She started her academic career at Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta India and has been a visiting faculty at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, XLRI - Jamshedpur, India, and Chuo University - Tokyo, Japan. She joined URI in 1981 from Kansas State University.
Her main teaching responsibilities are in the areas of advertising, marketing communications, and marketing management. She has also offered a course on Internet Marketing. At the PhD level, she offers the seminar course on Behavioral Foundations of Marketing. Currently, she is serving as the Supervising Professor of Kuan-Pin Chiang, Miao Zhao and Patricia Norberg. She is also a committee member for Nir Kshetri's dissertation.
In terms of research interests, the main topics are in the areas of market acceptance of technology products and services, marketing of technology products and services and consumer socialization processes. Currently, her research efforts are focused on understanding the Internet and World Wide Web as marketing media as well as the impact of their use (by both buyers and sellers) on different dimensions of life - at the household, establishment and geographical levels.
As Director of RITIM, she manages a team of researchers and students involved in projects related to telecommunications and information technologies.
She has been a seminar leader and keynote speaker in business and academic conferences and workshops in USA, Europe, Asia and Latin America. Consulting experience has involved conducting empirical studies on organizational and household adoption behaviors regarding telecommunications and information technology products and services sponsored by companies such as AT&T, NYNEX, Motorola, Telecom Italia, Unisys, etc. Her recent publications include:
