UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND

About the College

Dean's Message

Since its founding in 1923, the College of Business Administration (CBA) has served as the leader in business education, research and outreach for the State of Rhode Island. The CBA plays an important role in shaping and fostering economic development in Rhode Island. As the first accredited business school in Rhode Island (1969) and the first accredited accounting program at both the undergraduate and graduate level in the Northeast (1993), the CBA has always been a recognized leader in business education.

The College of Business Administration is located in Ballentine Hall, a state-of-the-art building, completely renovated in 2003 and designed to utilize the latest educational technology. It is home to the Bruce S. Sherman Trading Center and the Vincent Sarni Executive Wing. Located on the "URI Quad", the building is at the center of campus activity.

Our commitment to quality education is reflected in the dedication of our faculty and our small class sizes. With an average class size of 37, students have the opportunity to major in accounting, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship management, general business, global business, and supply chain management. Our curriculum is designed to prepare students to be successful in a global economy. All students must complete two semesters of a foreign language and all of our majors require students to take an International Business course. The International Business Program (IBP) is designed for students who have an interest in pursuing a degree in both business and foreign language. Students can complete this exciting dual degree program in 4 1/2 years. The unique aspect of this program is that students will not only study abroad but do a 6-month internship overseas with a major international corporation.

The URI College of Business Administration is proud of its long list of distinguished graduates, which include Alfred Verrecchia, CEO- Hasbro Inc.; Richard Harrington, CEO - The Thomson Corporation; Margo L. Cook, Managing Director - Bear Stearns; Wendy P. Field, Managing Director - UBS Investment Bank; Bruce Sherman, CEO - Private Capital Management; Howard Frank, Vice Chairman and COO - Carnival Corporation; and Robert Crandall - Retired CEO American Airlines.
