URI Accounting Program Advisory Boards
The URI Area of Accounting has two Accounting Program Advisory Boards – the Senior Board and the Recent Graduate Board. The purpose of both boards is to advise the college on issues such as curriculum and programs, recruitment and retention of students, career development and placement, alumni activities and support, and emerging trends in the accounting field.
The Recent Graduate Board is used primarily for input on assessment of the curriculum, student activities, and placement. They provide vital information for continuous improvement. The Recent Graduate Board has approximately 20 members. They represent a mix of graduates over the past 6 years. The board, by design, is quite diverse.
The Senior Board has 20 senior financial executives from government agencies, industry, non-profits, and public accounting. This board advises on broad policy, strategy planning, finances/fundraising, employer relations, and other matters that need their wisdom.
Both boards operate under the direction of board chairs. The chairs are elected by the board members. Board members are selected by the Accounting Area coordinator, Allan Graham, with advisement from the faculty, college dean, and associate deans. The boards meet twice a year (Fall and Spring).
At the present time the Senior board is being reconvened after a 4 year hiatus. Members are being added during October/November 2008. At October 24, 2008 the following members have accepted positions on the board.
