Admission Requirements and Tuition Costs

Applicants with a bachelor's degree from any accredited college or university may apply for admission to the Master of Business Administration Program.

To apply, complete the online application at the URI Graduate Applications Web site. You are able to complete the statement of purpose, address information, pay the application fee and ask your referees to submit their letters of recommendation online. All other items will need to be sent as hard copies to the URI Graduate Admissions Office, Quinn Hall Room 204, 55 Lower College Road, Kingston, RI 02881.

The application includes submission of the following items:

  • Brief statement of purpose (online)
  • $65 Non-refundable application fee submitted via online application as a credit card payment or as an electronic check
  • Two letters of recommendation (online or hard copy)
  • Current resume
  • Official college transcript(s) sealed and unopened by the student (also known as tested copy of mark sheet for international students)
  • Official score report for the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or GRE taken within the last five years. Test scores are not required for candidates with a PhD, PharmD, JD or MD.
  • Residency Application or Certificate of Residency for in-state or qualified regional students. Applicants who have lived in Rhode Island for one year are considered in-state residents. Regional status is limited to the Evening program and the following communities only.
  • TOEFL or IELTS (taken within the last two years) scores are required for all international students who completed their bachelor's degree from an non-English speaking foreign University. A minimum score of 91 for TOEFL under the new IBT-Internet Based Test or 575 under the paper based testing, and minimum score of 65 on the IELTS is required. GMAT/GRE Information

Prospective students should take the GMAT or GRE at least two weeks prior to the application deadline. Both are computerized tests, offered across the world. The GMAT, in Rhode Island, is offered at Pearson Professional Centers in Warwick. The codes for GMAT are: B3Q-KT-48 for the Kingston One Year MBA Program, and B3Q-KT-29 for the Providence Evening MBA Program.

The GRE, in Rhode Island, is offered at Prometric Test Center in Warwick. The code for the College of Business is #5955.

Application Deadlines

Applications are reviewed on a rolling admission basis, meaning once the application is complete, the admission committee will review your materials. However, final deadlines for each program are listed below. The Graduate School will communicate the admission decision to you via e-campus, the electronic information management system of the University of Rhode Island. You will receive instructions for creating your e-campus account via e-mail after you submit your application. It is imperative that you provide a working e-mail address and check it regularly for updates. The Graduate School will NOT mail hard copies of decision letters.

For Providence Evening MBA Study:

  • June 30 for admission in September(Fall)
  • October 31 for admission in January(Spring)
  • March 31 for admission in May(Summer)

For Kingston Full-Time MBA Study:

  • February 15 for admission in August for International Applicants
  • April 15 for admission in August for US Citizens

Note to international candidates- if accepted, you will be working with the Office of International Students & Scholars Office to obtain the necessary Visa paperwork.

Academic Requirements

Applicants with a diverse background are encouraged to apply. Most applicants have an undergraduate grade point average of B (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) or better, and GMAT or GRE scores around the 50th percentile. A profile of the newest entering class is available. While GPA and test scores are used for screening applicants, all candidates are evaluated on five criteria:

  3. Leadership Potential
  4. Motivation
  5. Communication Skills
How Much Does it Cost to Get My MBA at URI?

For Evening MBA Classes in Providence and Kingston (2009/2010):

  • Tuition based on a per credit cost (up to 9 credits)
  • In-state residents (living in RI for one year) = $490/credit
  • Out-state residents = $1,228/credit
  • Regional residents = $735/credit ( See List of Eligible MA towns )
  • Additional fees for in/out state = Vary per location - see Enrollment Services site for details.

For Kingston Full-Time MBA Study (2009/2010):

  • Tuition for entire one year program (two full semesters plus both summer sessions)
  • In-state residents (living in RI for one year) = $16,178
  • Out-state residents = $40,520

Additional fees for in/out state per semester= $2,251 (for Fall and Spring which includes health, registration, and student services fees); one time $35 transcript and $75 graduation/document fees. See Enrollment Services site for details.
