Unique Features of the Program
- A highly qualified full-time faculty personally committed to student success. Accounting professors at URI have national and international reputations as leaders in their fields. Accounting faculty members are active as editors of accounting journals, officers in professional accounting associations and textbook authors. They have professional experience as well as academic credentials, having practiced as CPA’s, controllers, or government accountants.
- A strong emphasis on experiential learning and innovation in teaching. Internships, computer applications, and wide variety of communication and interpersonal skill-building opportunities, help prepare students for career success.
- The program is housed in the new Ballentine Hall, with state of the art instructional technology, including a comprehensive accounting and tax research database and trading room.
- Graduate level accounting classes are small with approximately 15-25 students per class allowing for a close interaction between faculty and students.
- Extensive business and community support led by the Accounting Visiting Committee composed of partners in CPA firms and senior financial executives who meet regularly with students and faculty. Committee members and other accounting professionals and business leaders participate in the classroom as guest speakers and executives in residence.
- Active assistance in career development by the faculty and the university's Career Services office. Students are placed in all major CPA firms as well as Fortune 500 firms and the State and Federal Government.
