Finance

The finance faculty undertakes research in global capital markets, with an emphasis on Asian and Pacific capital markets. The Pacific-Basin Capital Markets Research Center creates and distributes capital markets databases for Asian and Pacific countries. An advanced trading room featuring a Thomson One Database is a major asset of the Finance Area. With access to the best databases available, PhD students have an advantage in carrying out research on Asian and Pacific capital markets.

Management

In the management concentration, students apply organizational theory and research methods to management-related problems in the workplace. The program helps students structure organizational issues in ways conducive to the application of research and problem-solving methods. Specializations include technological impacts on management, environmental issues, leadership, negotiations and conflict resolution, strategic compensation, entrepreneurship, arbitration and gender issues in management.

Please note that the area of Management is not accepting doctoral students for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Managerial Statistics

The managerial statistics area encompasses the use of computer-associated technologies for managerial decision making as well as the modeling and resolving of business choice under conditions of risk and uncertainty.

Please note that the area of Managerial Statistics is not accepting doctoral students for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Marketing

The marketing faculty at the University of Rhode Island’s College of Business Administration conducts research in the areas of telecommunications and information technology marketing, services marketing, and macro-marketing. This program has been created to strengthen understanding in marketing foundations. To develop future scholars, pedagogical and research skills are incorporated into the curriculum. Each candidate is expected to develop a customized area of specialization.

Operations and Supply Chain Management

The faculty in operations and supply chain management conducts empirical research in such areas as: operations strategy, planning and control, process analysis and control, quality management, reverse logistics, logistics, purchasing, service and manufacturing operations, supplier relationship management, demand management, and order fulfillment. Although every student completes four research seminars, individual programs of study are designed by the student and their major professor to accommodate the student's research interests.
