Honors Program
Honors Colloquium
Each fall the Honors Program sponsors a colloquium featuring special speakers and events. The colloquium is open to the general public and provides the core for a parallel honors course. Honors students meet and discuss current issues with nationally and internationally renowned personalities and intellectual leaders. The last two colloquiums have been:
Fall 2007 – China Rising
This exciting, topical series will explore China's dramatic transformation over the past three decades, a transformation that has returned it to the leading role it has played throughout most of world history.
Topics will include labor, government, business, security, environment, dissidents, education, and the arts.
Fall 2006 – Songs of Social Justice
Social and political movements use music as a means of expression, persuasion, and mobilization. Music is emotive and creates a feeling of belonging; it can speak in code, rendering it acceptable to the mainstream even as it forwards the specific social agenda of a particular group of people. This colloquium featured activist musicians who discussed and performed their music, emphasizing the power of music to shape political and social experience.

The College of Business Administration’s Honors Program
The College of Business Administration (CBA) is pleased to announce the establishment of an Honors Program. Our Program is one of only a select number of business-based Honors Programs in the country – a program dedicated to superior education in the multiple fields that incorporate today’s business world.
Why Should You Participate in the Honors Program?
If you desire to be the best and are energized by challenging work, the CBA Honors Program is designed for you. The program provides students with enrichment opportunities that broaden and enhance their undergraduate educational experience through guest speakers from leading corporations and corporate tours. The program features small classes that promote discussion and individualized learning, allowing students to develop skills in quantitative analysis, as well as oral and written communication.
Are Honors Classes More Rigorous Than Typical Business Classes?
Honors program classes will challenge your intellect and will provide you with a broad, sophisticated and well-rounded understanding of business. Although the workload in an honors class is slightly more rigorous than a regular class, the benefits derived from the classroom interactions make it worth the additional effort.
How Do You Become an Honors Program Student?
Entering freshmen are granted automatic admission if they graduated in the top 10 percent of their high school class and have declared business as their field of study. Other incoming students may be admitted by the Honors Program Director upon submission of their high school transcript and a letter of recommendation from either their high school principal or guidance counselor.
Can I Enter the Honors Program after my Freshman Year?
Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible by achieving and maintaining a minimum 3.2 GPA. Continuing URI students must maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA or receive permission from the Honors Director. Access to the Honors Program will continue for qualified students throughout their undergraduate years.
Requirements to Complete the Program
A College of Business student can graduate from the Honors Program and have it noted on his/her final transcript by maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and by completing the following courses:
- 3 HPR credits at either the 100 or 200 level (HPR 100 level course or BUS 201)
- 3 HPR credits of the Honors Colloquium (HPR 201 or 202)
