Financial Aid
Financial aid is offered in many forms:
- Grants
- Scholarships
- Centennial Scholarships
- Loans
- Work Study
Grants are usually awarded due to financial need, and can be based on current family income, background or place of residence. Grants are awarded by the State and Federal governments based on the information provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, usually referred to as the FAFSA.
Scholarships are awarded for any number of reasons. Some of the most stated qualifications include academic achievement, athletic achievement and field of study. Some scholarships have ongoing requirements that must be met to keep the scholarship going. The Centennial Scholarship, for example, requires the applicant to achieve a 1150 or higher on the SATs (or a minimum ACT score of 25) and rank within the top one-third of their graduating high school class. Students must also maintain a 3.0 GPA or better to keep the Centennial Scholarship. Just remember: there are thousands of scholarships out there, but it usually takes some work to find one that fits you. Companies, such as FastWeb, can help you locate those scholarships.
Sometimes the money just isn't there. That's okay though. Special loan programs are available to help with the costs of college.
Work Study helps a great deal in buffering incurred costs. Students can choose to work on or off campus at a job of their choice and put their earned wages toward paying off their term bill.
